Sergei Istrati is a composer and pianist based in London. Born and raised in Latvia, Istrati immersed himself in music from an early age, starting with piano and showing interest in a wide range of musical styles. Sergei studies Jazz Piano at Leeds College of Music, a pivotal step in his musical journey.
He continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Composition and then a Master’s in Composition for Screen. This academic path allowed him to broaden his musical horizons and master the art of composing for various media formats.
Istrati’s music is a unique blend of neo-classical elements, jazz improvisation, and sound experimentation. With a rich background in jazz, he seamlessly combines improvisational techniques with classical approaches, creating compositions that captivate with their simplicity and emotional depth.
As a jazz pianist, Istrati has performed across different venues throughout the UK, including private events in Windsor for the late Prince Philip.
In 2023, Istrati released his debut album, Melodies from My Room.
Currently, Istrati is working on his second album, Melodies from Highland, which expands his experimentation by incorporating a range of instruments, including strings, percussion, and other innovative sound treatments.
Sergei has been teaching classical and jazz piano, composition, and music theory for over 12 years. Throughout this time, he has worked with many students, including children and adults of different levels, successfully preparing them for ABRSM examinations and helping them develop their musical skills, creativity, and confidence.
