Hannah is an instrumental teacher and freelance bassoonist who moved to London in 2024 after 3 years living, studying, and working in Cardiff, Wales. She is a recent graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, receiving a Distinction in Orchestral Performance on Bassoon. She joined the Royal Welsh College after graduating from her Bachelor’s degree in Music at the University of Cambridge, receiving a First-Class result. She moved to London to become a bassoonist in Sinfonia Smith Square’s 2024-2025 cohort (formerly Southbank Sinfonia), a prestigious orchestral fellowship based in Westminster. She provides private tuition to students on bassoon and piano across a variety of ages from primary school to adult restarters, and from beginner to advanced levels. She believes that music is an incredibly important part of a young person’s cultural and personal enrichment, cultivating skills such as communication, grit, discipline, and critical thinking, alongside a lifelong love of music. These are powerful life skills that are essential to pass onto young people. It is her warm personality, passion for her subject, and depth of knowledge that encourages the development of positive relationships with students and parents. She aims to create a nurturing but stimulating learning environment where curiosity, questions and mistakes are encouraged, and personalized technical, musical, and performance goals motivate consistent progress. In particular, she takes a holistic approach to teaching, where listening, vocalising, improvising, and musical games form an important part of developing overall musical skills. Furthermore, teaching a student how to practise and to develop their musical problem-solving is at the core of her strategy and is fundamental to ensuring students’ musical independence and continued learning in the future.
