With enjoyment at the heart of my teaching, I combine instilling a strong technical foundation with a deep musical understanding. I give particular emphasis on the importance of practice and equip each student with the skills to manage their own practice time efficiently and ensure smooth progress. Attention will also be given to theory and aural skills to further support their instrumental studies.

I create a fun and nurturing environment where every student has the space to be themselves and explore music. Lessons are tailored to the student’s unique needs and abilities, whether that involves working towards ABRSM exams or playing their favourite pop songs for the sheer joy.

In the first lesson for a beginner student, we will learn how to assemble the clarinet, correct reed placement and the fundamentals of air and embouchure (mouth shape) with the aim of producing a sound with healthy technique right from the get-go. If a student has previously had clarinet lessons, we will discuss the student’s goals, any previous music education and ascertain areas of improvement in their playing and understanding.

Previously, I taught children aged seven to 18 at the Camden Music Service for two years at their Saturday Music Centre, where I was also a woodwind coach for the Sinfonia orchestra and Camden Concert Band. I now teach privately in London.

Outside of teaching I enjoy a busy freelance career performing, recording and touring with orchestras around the UK including the London Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. This work has taken me abroad to such world-renowned venues as La Scala in Milan and to major festivals including Glyndebourne Opera and the BBC Proms. I trained at the Royal Academy of Music with Christopher Richards and Ben Mellefont, receiving a BMus, MA and LRAM. Maintaining an active performing career allows me to draw on all of my experience as a musician, informing and enriching my teaching practice.
